Heard in Fredriksfors Dec 15 - 18 - a short Canadian opening

December 15^th. I had switched to 285 degrees – to no avail. It took until 01 before Harbour Light appeared as the first for the night, along with a couple of other (too) weak stations. Occasional signals then from NA, Puerto Rico before the next really readable signal came; R Maria 1220 at 04. 05 also WEGA 1350 quite ok together with Uniminuto 1580 and probably WUNR 1600. but 06 it was only WEGA that held out.

16th. nothing until CBI 1140 appeared really strong 01. When then WDEA 1370 came in 02 with Christmas music it almost felt like something had happened to the conditions. At 04 there was NA on a large number of frequencies, at least on the upper half of the band, But only the most common ones. Gradually, an increasingly intense crackling came and most of the NA signals disappeared. Instead, there were a few (regular) Colombians left.

17th. I moved over to the 317-degree and hoped that the conditions would move inwards towards NA. A disturbance with a greatly increased solar wind and far too high A_index spoiled my hopes. Some from Canada around 04 and a Colombia opening at 06, which could have been really nice if I had had a more suitable antenna connected.

On 18th. I managed to get "Your Christmas Station VOCM" on 590 at 22 into my headphones for the first time this year - but not for long. And nothing else... There was a strong disturbance again, the K-index and solar wind shot up and the 285-degree antenna was of no use. A little hum, a few carriers, most of them probably from from Puerto Rico and Colombia, so it probably wouldn't have mattered much if I had had another antenna either.

1370 16.12 0200 WDEA Ellsworth ME ”Rudolph the rednosed reindeer” blev första NA jullåten i mina lurar för säsongen Säger väl allt om konditionerna. JE

1550 16.12 0300 R Rebelde har inte hörts här på jättelänge, men nu var det dags. Också på 1180 där jag heller inte uppfattat den på länge. JE

1560 16.12 0600 R Adventista, Llano Bonito gick ganska bra den här tiden. Körsång JE

1380 17.12 0600 HJEJ Esperanza R, Palmira en överraskning eftersom jag lyssnade på 317-gradersantenn även om tyvärr svag och brusig, men här vid 06 kom en öppning mot Colombia med signaler som orkade fram också på t ex 1430, 1450, 1460, 1470, 1580, 1590 JE
